New Legislation Could Help Position US as Global Leader in Immersive Technology, Says ITIF

December 11, 2024

WASHINGTON— In response to the introduction of the United States Leadership in Immersive Technology Act today, which would establish an advisory panel to create a national immersive technology strategy, the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF), the leading think tank for science and technology policy, released the following statement from Policy Analyst Alex Ambrose:

The United States Leadership in Immersive Technology Act of 2024 signals long-awaited federal interest in immersive technologies (XR) and recognizes the immense economic and social impact of XR on Americans' lives.
As the home to the world's largest XR companies and hardware producers, the United States is uniquely positioned to lead the global race on XR. Congress is right to recognize the need for a national strategy to advance this mission. The Immersive Technology Advisory Panel the bill would create will help provide a roadmap for further legislation promoting innovation in this important industry.
This bill represents an important step toward driving innovation and positioning the United States as a leader in immersive technologies.
