Comments to the House of Commons Public Bill Committee on the Investigatory Powers (Amendment) Bill
The Center for Data Innovation submitted comments to the House of Commons Public Bill Committee on its Investigatory Powers (Amendment) Bill consultation. The Center offered three recommendations for the Committee, including:
- The proposed bill should clearly define what type of data falls within “low or no expectation of privacy”.
- The Committee should revise the proposed measures for the notice regime that, in their current state, are overreaching, reduce UK competitiveness, and favour national security at the expense of consumer protection.
- The proposed bill should maintain the requirements for pre-requisite knowledge in the use of Internet Connection Records for the detection of high-impact offenders.
