Startup success is important for Central Florida, as those firms can add local jobs and create economic impact as they scale. Tech companies, in particular, have profound economic effects in the U.S. They make up fewer than 4% of businesses, but produce more than half of the nation's research and development jobs, and roughly 8% of wages, a study by the Washington D.C.-based Information Technology and Innovation Foundation showed.
