In comments submitted to the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), ITIF noted the importance of the recent additions to the Internet Use supplement to the Current Population Survey which focus on broadband connectivity and consumer technology. However, the comments reiterated the value of additions and adjustments that would more accurately capture state of Internet use in the United States and help policymakers better promote adoption and use of emerging technologies. ITIF recommended new survey questions exploring the use of e-commerce and e-government services, inhibiting activities including intellectual property theft and ad-blocking, and enabling and emerging technologies including mobile broadband and augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR). ITIF also suggested changes to existing questions to improve understanding of consumer privacy concerns and frequency of use of a number of Internet-enabled applications, services, and devices.
