Recommendation
The administration should direct the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) to provide assessment tools to help SME manufacturers identify and close gaps in their digital workflows.
Details
Digitalization represents a significant challenge, especially for SME manufacturers, which often don’t know where or how to begin or what the value proposition of digitalization will be. Benchmarking assessment programs can help SME manufacturers develop value propositions for digitalization and understand their progress in the journey; similar tools have proven effective in enhancing their cybersecurity capabilities. So, the administration should direct the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) to help SME manufacturers identify and close gaps in their digital workflows and chart a path forward for their manufacturing digitalization journeys by providing assessment tools for both “Digital Manufacturing and Design Maturity” and “Cybersecurity Maturity.”
