Comments to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada on Its Draft Policy on Transborder Data Flows
ITIF has filed comments with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC), regarding its draft policy changes towards transborder data flows. The draft policy changes fall under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), Canada’s general data privacy law for private sector entities. ITIF argues that OPC should continue to use PIPEDA’s accountability principle for oversight of transborder data flows, but should not require additional consent requirements for transferring data abroad.
