As Senior Government Affairs Counsel, Van Bloys leads WIA’s state & local advocacy issues, including work before state public utility commissions and state legislatures, outreach to municipalities to coordinate dialogue among industry and local stakeholders, and educational efforts regarding the interaction among federal, state, and local laws. Van works at the federal level to develop and implement policy governing local regulation of wireless infrastructure siting.

Van’s previous telecommunications work includes time spent with the U.S. House of Representatives’ Subcommittee on Communications and Technology and at the FCC, both in the Media Bureau and as a law clerk to Commissioner Michael J. Copps. Van also held positions with the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International, Comcast Corporation, and the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA).

Van received a B.A. in Art History from Georgetown University and a J.D. from American University Washington College of Law, where he served as a Note & Comment Editor for the Administrative Law Review, as president of the WCL Communications & Media Law Society, and as a Classroom Deans’ Fellow for the Legal Rhetoric Department. He is admitted to practice law in Maryland.
