Iain Stewart
Iain Stewart is a member of the board of ITIF's Centre for Canadian Innovation and Competitiveness.
Stewart is also board member for NavCanada and the Finance Committee of the Royal Society of Canada. He is also a member of the Innovation Policy Lab of the Munk School of the University of Toronto, and owner of the Lanark Consulting Group.
From 2016–2023, Stewart was president of the National Research Council of Canada, comprised of research centres across Canada and the Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP), where he implemented new research excellence and collaboration program initiatives and the large-scale renewal of NRC facilities nationally.
From September 2020 to October 2021, Stewart was president of the Public Health Agency of Canada, successfully implementing Canada's COVID-19 vaccine rollout.
Prior positions included associate secretary (associate deputy minister) and assistant secretary of the International Affairs, Security, and Justice Sector (IASJ) of the Treasury Board Secretariat (TBS), assistant deputy minister of strategic policy, and associate assistant deputy minister of science and technology, at the Department of Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED). He was also assistant vice‑president of research at Dalhousie University, as well as a range of prior federal executive positions focused on economic growth, business innovation, and university research.
