On June 11, 2019, ITIF President Robert Atkinson partnered with David Plouffe, Senior Advisor to President Barack Obama in the C.D. Howe Institute Regent Debate to debate whether governments should regulate Big Tech to protect the public interest. They faced off against former FBI Director James Comey and Former Commissioner of the Canadian Competition Bureau Melanie Aitken. The sold-out event was held in the Concert Hall of the Carlu in Toronto. A 10-member jury of policy leaders judged the teams’ positions.

In the Regent debate series, senior policy thought leaders go head-to-head on the most critical issues facing Canadians.
