University Research Funding: Still Lagging Behind and Showing No Signs of Improvement
Event Summary
It will come as a surprise to many that America is no longer, and nowhere near, the lead nation in terms of funding university research. In fact, as ITIF has reported, of 39 nations, the U.S. ranks just 24th in government funding of university R&D and 27th in business funding as a share of GDP. Furthermore, the leading seven nations invest more than double the United States in university research. Given the importance of universities to the innovation ecosystem, these findings do not bode well for future U.S. competitiveness and economic growth.
Please join ITIF for an expert panel discussion which will examine the current state of investment in university R&D and the policy reforms that are required to improve our international position and strengthen innovation, technology transfer and business and job growth.
