Artemis II Is a Win for NASA and a Wake-Up Call for Space Policy Reform, Says ITIF

WASHINGTON—Following today’s successful Artemis II rocket launch, the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF), the leading think tank for science and technology policy, released the following statement from Ellis Scherer, policy analyst for broadband, spectrum, and space at ITIF:

The Artemis II mission is being carried out on one of the largest rockets in U.S. history, marking a bellwether for future American innovation in space flight. But if the United States wants to continue leading in space innovation, it will need more than rocket science. Regulatory reform is critical to enable more frequent launches of super-heavy-lift rockets.

That means streamlining rocket licensing, modernizing spaceports, expanding access to radiofrequency spectrum for launch operations, and investing in the infrastructure needed to increase launch capacity.

Congress needs to allocate more resources to improve U.S. launch capacity, and regulators should cut through red tape to bolster American innovation in space.
