ITIF Welcomes Former Rep. Ron Kind as Board Co-Chair Alongside Former Rep. Philip English
WASHINGTON—The Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF), the leading think tank for science and technology policy, today announced that former U.S. Rep. Ron Kind (D-WI) has joined ITIF’s board to serve as co-chair alongside former U.S. Rep. Philip English (R-PA). Kind succeeds former U.S. Rep. Susan Davis (D-CA), who is retiring as co-chair after serving on ITIF’s board since 2021.
“We are thrilled to have Congressman Kind join our board to help lead ITIF forward,” said ITIF President and Founder Dr. Robert D. Atkinson. “Ron brings a wealth of experience and insight into technology, innovation, and competitiveness issues from his 26 years of service in the U.S. House—and he is very familiar with ITIF’s mission and the role we play providing policymakers with high-quality information, analysis, and actionable recommendations they can trust.”
Kind, currently a senior counsel in the legislative and public policy practice at Arnold & Porter in Washington, DC, comes to his co-chair role on ITIF’s board having previously served as an honorary co-chair from 2010 to 2013. As a member of Congress, Kind served on the House Ways and Means Committee and its subcommittees on Health and Trade and was a member of the House Natural Resources, Budget, Education & Labor and Agriculture Committees. One of Congress’ most bipartisan members, Kind also served as chair of the solutions-oriented New Democrat Coalition.
“I am very pleased to join Phil as co-chair of ITIF’s board,” said Kind, “particularly now, as technology and innovation policies play an increasingly vital role in America’s economic and national security. I have long admired ITIF’s work on these issues, and I know from first-hand experience how valuable it is to lawmakers.”
During his time in office, Kind helped pass legislation on a wide range of technology, innovation, and competitiveness issues, from the CHIPS Act to multiple free trade agreements, including the U.S.-Mexico-Canada agreement.
“Ron is a terrific addition to ITIF’s board,” said English. “His record in Congress underscores the expertise and insight he can offer—and he arrives at an important time. ITIF has justly earned its reputation as the world’s leading think tank for science and technology policy. Moving forward, as new issues emerge at the intersection of innovation and public policy, ITIF has an opportunity to keep building on its strong foundation by continuing to deliver the kind of expertise, analysis, and recommendations that its team is uniquely well-qualified to provide.”
