Commentary: According to the latest report by the International Federation of Robotics (IFR), China surpassed the United States in industrial robot density in 2021. IFR defines industrial robot density as a country’s number of industrial robots installed per 10,000 manufacturing workers. Industrial robot density is a key indicator of manufacturing automation, and these machines are increasingly necessary in advanced, high-value-added manufacturing industries. The United States now ranks eighth in industrial robot density behind South Korea, Singapore, Japan, Germany, China, Sweden, and Taiwan.
