Breakthrough Technology or Cause for Alarm? How Generative AI Will Shape the Education Market

With the popularization of generative AI tools, critics have voiced concerns that it will contribute to issues like plagiarism, destructive forms of job automation, an overall weakening of student writing sills and creativity, and data privacy vulnerabilities.

Even so, generative AI is “not really introducing a new set of fears” in schools, said Gillian Diebold, policy analyst at the Center for Data Innovation. Her organization conducts independent research on the impact of increased use of information on the economy and society.

“It’s really the latest integration of concerns surrounding AI and education that have existed for maybe about the last decade or so,” she said.
