Testifying at a joint informational hearing of the California State Assembly’s Committee on Privacy and Consumer Protection and its Select Committee on Emerging Technologies and Innovation, ITIF Research Analyst Michael McLaughlin provided an overview of the benefits of facial recognition technology, summarized current frameworks governing the use of the technology, and recommended additional steps the state can take to improve oversight and accountability.
