Congress has mandated that FDA undertake a public education program to correct misunderstandings and allay false fears about "GMOs". To be successful these efforts must grounded in recognition of the fact that for many years well-funded special interest groups have been prosecuting a misleading propaganda campaign aimed at raising false fears as a means of expanding market share for their own favored food brands. FDA must put in place measures that will allay these fears and provide consumers with correct information based on data and experience, as well as tools required to distinguish reliable information from propaganda.
