Internet Privacy: Should Brazil Follow the EU?

As Brazilian policy makers embark on an important effort to craft a strategy for digital transformation, they are rightly looking at other nations to determine what they can learn that will apply to Brazil. However, it would be a mistake to adopt an approach based on the EU’s privacy system. As Rob Atkinson writes in Brazil’s O Globo, policy makers must take care to adopt a privacy regime that not only protects privacy but enables digital innovation. Instead, a “third way” would adopt a robust notice and choice privacy regime backed by real enforcement.
