From NIMBY to PIMBY on Wind Farms

Some in Nebraska fear that expanding wind energy will ruin the landscape, lower property values, and harm tourism. But state decisionmakers would do well to consider not only the well-known NIMBY phenomenon (“not in my backyard”), but also on the countervailing PIMBY impulse—“please, in my backyard”—as expressed by farmers and others who welcome windmills. As David Hart writes in the Lincoln Journal Star, building on PIMBY may be better than fighting NIMBY to accelerate the country’s energy transition.
