What Should Trump's Manufacturing Strategy Look Like?

From his involvement in the deal to keep Carrier from moving some of its jobs to Mexico to the warnings he has issued to other companies that are thinking about moving jobs abroad, President Trump has signaled that he is serious about shoring up U.S. manufacturing, writes Rob Atkinson in the Christian Science Monitor. His early moves have elicited a range of responses from analysts and commentators, running the gamut from, in effect, “this is totally trivial” to “we shouldn’t care so much about manufacturing, anyway.” But absent from the responses has been practical advice for how the new administration should craft an effective U.S. manufacturing strategy.
