Will U.S. Productivity Stagnate or Flourish? Maybe Neither.

To increase living standards, we must increase productivity. Unfortunately, U.S. productivity performance has been utterly dismal, Rob Atkinson writes in the Christian Science Monitor. Now what? Stagnationists say we've harvested all the low-hanging fruit there is to increase productivity, so we are in for a long period of these doldrums. Techno-utopians argue we're the brink of a new industrial revolution that will power a productivity boom. Both are likely wrong, but for different reasons.
