In his latest Christian Science Monitor column, Rob Atkinson discusses comments made by two leading presidential candidates that have intensified the debate around productivity to an extent that is only possible under the hot klieg lights of a presidential campaign. He suggests that these comments also have illustrated some of the unfortunate shortcomings of prevailing economic thought, arguing that those on the left don’t believe raising productivity would do any good and that those on the right don’t think it can be done anyway. Both are wrong, he says.
