Proposed language in legislation to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank ostensibly wants to help small business. However, the Ex-Im bank already meets these requirements and has fulfilled its existing mandate to serve small and medium-sized traded-sector exporters. Adams Nager writes in IndustryWeek that placing rigid restrictions on the Ex-Im Bank may be politically palatable but will harm the Bank's ability to serve small exporters.
