WASHINGTON (September 10, 2014) – The growth over the last two decades of a globally integrated, innovation-based economy has transformed international trade, research and development and industrial production, while impacting job growth and competitiveness across the globe. As numerous governments now implement comprehensive innovation strategies designed to meet the challenges of this new paradigm, the United States’ long standing position as a global innovation leader is being challenged like never before.To further assess global efforts to develop vibrant innovation ecosystems and promote the reforms the United States needs to implement to keep pace, ITIF will host the American release of the Global Innovation Index 2014. The annual ranking of 143 economies, published by Cornell University, The European Institute for Business Administration (INSEAD) and the World Intellectual Property Organization, uses 81 indicators to gauge innovation capacity, competitiveness, and the strength of national innovation ecosystems. The event will be held Wednesday, September 17 from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM at ITIF, 1101 K Street NW, Suite 610A.Key findings from the report will be presented by co-author Soumitra Dutta, Dean of the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University. This will be followed by a discussion of how America can develop a strong and successful innovation policy strategy based on the pace of global innovation development, led by ITIF President Robert Atkinson.The event is free, open to the public and complies with ethics rules.
