William Sisson

Senior Director, Sustainability

Bill Sisson directs United Technologies Corporation’s (UTC) strategic efforts and advocacy for sustainable development on behalf of the corporation’s Senior Vice President of Science and Technology. He is a member of UTC’s Sustainability Council, chartered to align UTC’s strategic sustainability initiatives with its business interests. He leads UTC’s product sustainability efforts, with emphasis on deploying refined process engineering goals on design for sustainability and life cycle analysis. He advocates for energy efficiency in buildings and sustainable urban infrastructure by serving on a variety of global organization boards that support UTC interests. Sisson also currently serves as UTC’s Liaison Delegate to the World Business Council for Sustainable Development and is Co-chair of that organization’s Energy Efficiency in Buildings Project.

In addition, he is Director of UTC’s REACH efforts. REACH is the European Union’s regulation of Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals. In this role, he is responsible for directing UTC’s overall REACH compliance efforts with UTC business unit leaders.

Since 1985, Sisson has worked for UTC in a variety of technical and business leadership positions. Most recently, he served as Task Leader for Policy, Markets and Behavior at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Innovation Hub on Energy Efficiency in Buildings in Philadelphia. In prior years, he served as UTRC Program Leader for Carrier, driving a research and development portfolio for energy efficiency and the environment. He was also the Global Product Manager for Carrier’s commercial controls at Carrier Electronics.

Sisson sits on the board of directors of the Alliance to Save Energy, Virginia Tech Center for Sustainable Leadership, TERI-North America, and the Global Buildings Performance Network. He completed his undergraduate studies at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Virginia, in engineering science and mechanics, received his master’s in mechanical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York, and is an MIT Sloan Fellow where he also received his MBA.
