Ron Kind
Former U.S. Rep. Ron Kind is co-chair of ITIF’s board as of November 2023. Previously, he was an honorary co-chair of ITIF’s board from 2010 to 2013. A native of La Crosse, Wisconsin, Rep. Kind represented the people of western Wisconsin’s Third Congressional District from 1996 to 2022. Currently, he is a member of Arnold & Porter’s Legislative & Public Policy practice.
During his 26 years as a member of the House of Representatives (D-WI), Rep. Kind was engaged at the highest level on a broad range of complex policy issues. He was involved in the passage of the Affordable Care Act and most other major health-care legislation of the last 20 years, the Inflation Reduction Act, the 2021 infrastructure package, the CHIPS Act, multiple free trade agreements—including the U.S.-Mexico-Canada agreement—major tax and pension reform, and retirement legislation.
Rep. Kind served as a member of the House Ways and Means Committee and its subcommittees on Health and Trade and was a member of the House Natural Resources, Budget, Education & Labor and Agriculture Committees. One of the most bipartisan members of Congress, Rep. Kind also served as chair of the solutions-oriented New Democrat Coalition and co-chaired the bipartisan US-UK Caucus and the US-British Inter-parliamentary Caucus.
Rep. Kind is a graduate of La Crosse Logan High School. His success in academics and football brought him to Harvard University where he earned a bachelor’s degree. Later, he earned a Master’s degree from the London School of Economics and a Law Degree from the University of Minnesota.
