Richard Vorder Bruegge

Richard W. Vorder Bruegge retired from the FBI in 2024, where he served as Chief Image Advisor and Subject Matter Expert for image and video analytics, including facial recognition and multimedia analysis. In that role, he oversaw and performed research in the forensic analysis of imagery, with emphasis on facial identification and recognition, as well as synthetic media creation and detection. During his time at the Bureau, he conducted examinations on image and video evidence and testified over 60 times. Dr. Vorder Bruegge has a Ph.D. and Master’s degree in Geological Sciences from Brown University, as well as an Sc.B. in Engineering from Brown. He now serves as the owner and Director of ForensicVB LLC, which provides training and consulting services in biometrics, facial recognition, and image and video analytics, including multimedia authentication (such as synthetic media and deepfake detection) and policy development. He also serves on the Advisory Board of the Digital Safety Research Institute and is an Executive Board member of the ASTM E30 Committee on Forensic Science.
