Prabir Neogi

Dr. Prabir K. Neogi has a B.Eng. from Calcutta University in India and a Ph.D. (Engineering) from Imperial College, London University (GB). After teaching for a year at the Royal Military College in Kingston and working for 9 years in the Computer Service Bureau Industry, he joined the Government of Canada in 1977. He worked for 35 years in the Department of Communications (DOC) and its successor, Industry Canada, serving as a Special Advisor with the Spectrum, Information Technologies and Telecommunications Sector until his retirement in December 2012.

Dr. Neogi is currently a Visiting Fellow at the Canada-India Centre for Excellence in Science, Technology, Trade and Policy, Carleton University, Ottawa. He is a member of the International Telecommunications Society (ITS) and participates regularly in the annual Telecommunications Policy Research Conference (TPRC), where he has presented several papers and organized numerous Panel discussions.

His areas of work and interest include: Telecommunications and Internet policy, broadband infrastructure (wireline and wireless) deployment and spectrum policy issues, general policy issues related to the deployment and use of networked infrastructures in transportation, power and telecommunications, digital divide issues and the socio-economic implications of the widespread adoption and use of information and communications technologies (ICTs) by businesses, institutions and citizens. He is particularly interested in issues related to the widespread adoption of General Purpose Technologies (steam, electricity, ICTs) and their enabling and transformative potential.
