Madeleine is a cultural anthropologist focusing on the evolving role of humans in large scale automated and autonomous systems. She has conducted ethnographic research with a range of robotics labs and companies, and since 2011 has conducted research with Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) development and operations communities. She is currently a Researcher at Data & Society in New York with the Intelligence and Autonomy Initiative, which develops research connecting the dots between robots, algorithms and automation. She will complete her PhD in Anthropology at Columbia University in 2016 and previously earned an S.M. in Comparative Media Studies at MIT.
