John McCoskey

As Executive Vice President & Chief Technology Officer, John McCoskey is responsible for development and execution of MPAA's global technology strategy. His operational responsibilities encompass technology strategy implementation, development, operations and infrastructure. His organization provides technical strategy supporting MPAA’s advocacy, legal, communications, and content protection initiatives.

Previously, he served for more than six years as the first-ever Chief Technology Officer at the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) where he was responsible for all technology strategy, development, operations and infrastructure serving more than 350 full-power television stations reaching citizens of all 50 states, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam and American Samoa. Prior to PBS, Mr. McCoskey was Vice President, Product Development at Comcast; Chief Technology Officer and cofounder at Brief Original Broadcasts (BOB); and Senior Vice President, Technology and CTO at Discovery Communications. Earlier in his career he held management positions at GTE Spacenet and Communications Satellite Corporation.

Mr. McCoskey holds two M.S. degrees from Johns Hopkins University, one in Technology Management and one in Computer Science. He also earned a Bachelor of Science from Bucknell University in Electrical Engineering. He is an inventor with multiple utility patents related to technology and media.
