Event Summary
In June 2019, the Global Trade and Innovation Policy Alliance (GTIPA) will hold its Third Annual Summit a high-level, conference focused on innovation policy and how policymakers in developing countries can implement the “best practices” that have been employed in other countries.
Attendees of this event will be representatives from GTIPA; experts on trade, globalization, innovation, and IP policy issues; Mexican leaders from the business, academic and policymaking communities; and members of Mexican Federal Government, Deputies and Senators.

2:15-3:15 PM – Panel 1: Smart Cities and Society
Description: An open panel between GTIPA members, speakers, and guests to discuss the social impact of regions that implement Smart Cities Features (technology, information, science and innovation) and the role of the Digital Transformation of the Economy to improve citizens’ lives.

Description: New business models are being created across sectors and regions due to the accelerating use of technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and 3D printing. At the same time, policy-driven barriers to optimized global trade and market access are asserting themselves. This session will use the transformation of global value chains to highlight these changes and assess where value-creating opportunities and risks present themselves to the private and public sectors.

5:30-6:30 PM – Panel 3: Challenges and opportunities for developing countries regarding life-sciences innovation
Description: An exploration of the public policy issues countries need to address to stimulate life-sciences innovation in developing countries.

Description: By 2030, the target year for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, more-advanced forms of technology will emerge. It’s important to analyze the impacts (positive and negative) on global development endeavors that can arise from Fourth Industrial Revolution (FIR)-induced disruptions and externalities.
