Gene Editing and GMOs - the Same or Different?

Val Giddings gave a presentation at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez on 29 June 2018. The relationship between GMOs and gene editing was discussed and their role in agricultural innovation and sustainability explored.
The hot topic du jour in agricultural innovation is gene editing, particularly CRISPR. Gene editing is obviously new, but while some see it as distinct and separate from GMOs other see them both as part of a continuum. These perspectives are explored as well as the explosion in new research, and the new products being deployed already or under rapid development, together with the issues they raise.
