How Europe Can Kickstart Its Internet of Things

Tuesday, December 6, 201609:00 AM to 10:30 AM CET
Quaker HouseSquare Ambiorix 50Brussels , 1000

Event Summary

The Internet of Things presents tremendous opportunities to increase productivity in the private sector, build more resilient and energy-efficient cities, improve the delivery and management of healthcare, and create safer and more accessible homes. However, market forces alone will not be enough to achieve all these benefits soon enough. Government support for the Internet of Things is necessary to prove the value of these investments and lay some of the technological groundwork for future projects.

To provide this support, some countries are beginning to explore the need to develop national strategies for the Internet of Things. What role should the European Union play in developing a coordinated approach in Europe? Join ITIF's Center for Data Innovation for a panel discussion on the strategies countries are using to support the Internet of Things, the early European successes with this technology, and the opportunities for policymakers in the EU and member states to support the development and deployment of smart technologies.
