From 10th to 1st: Improving U.S. Innovation and Global Competitiveness
Event Summary
U.S. economic, trade, and innovation policies do not exist in a vacuum; they are inextricably linked to other countries' policies. Please join ITIF for a discussion hosted by Senators Chris Coons and Jerry Moran on how effective America is at bolstering innovation for our own benefit and for the good of the global economy.
The starting point for discussion will be ITIF's new report, Contributors and Detractors: Ranking Countries’ Impact on Global Innovation, which assesses 56 nations on the extent to which their policies contribute to and detract from the global innovation ecosystem. The U.S. ranks 10th overall, revealing there is room to improve its human capital, R&D, technology, and tax policies if it wants to maximize its global competitiveness and innovation potential. This event will explore what policies Congress can pursue in 2016 to improve America’s standing and become the world leader in global innovation.
Following a brief overview of the report, a panel of experts representing industry, academia, and the non-profit sector will offer their perspectives and take questions on this critical competitiveness issue.
