# Third Annual Data Innovation Day Highlights Transformative Role of Data

WASHINGTON – (January 14, 2015) The collection, analysis and use of vast amounts of data generates an enormous amount of public benefits including promoting economic development, improving health care, and increasing public safety. Policymakers around the world are now exploring how data-driven innovation can be used to improve their schools, businesses, and communities. To explore the emerging opportunities data provides and assess the policy implications of these developments, ITIF’s Center for Data Innovation is sponsoring the third annual Data Innovation Day on Thursday, January 22.

Data Innovation Day 2015 will focus on an online forum where participants from around the world will be invited to discuss the economic and social benefits made possible by data-driven innovation. The event will include panels on Healthcare, Education, Public Safety, and the Environment; Open Data, Civic Hacking, and Data-Driven Government; Wearables, Sensors, and the Internet of Things; Innovations in Analytics, Visualization, and Big Data Technologies; and New Business Models in the Data Economy. The forum will be held from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM EST and is free and open to the public. [Registration](https://www.eventbrite.com/e/data-innovation-day-2015-tickets-15004933159) is required to participate.

“Data-driven innovation is quickly changing the face of countless sectors from healthcare to agriculture to government,” notes Daniel Castro, director of the Center for Data Innovation. “Data Innovation Day showcases these global changes and provides policymakers with a better understanding of the potential benefits of data.”

Speakers for the forum will include Hudson Hollister, Executive Director of the Data Transparency Coalition; Alan Inouye Director of the Office for IT Policy with the American Library Association; William Jeffries, Founding Officer with Heat Seek NYC; Cameron Kerry, Distinguished Visiting Fellow with the Brookings Institution, Maksim Pecherskiy, Chief Data Officer for the City of San Diego, and Mark Silverman, CEO of Treeminer.
