# New Supply Chain NOFO Could Help the US Stay Ahead in Semiconductor Innovation, Says ITIF

WASHINGTON—Ahead of the announcement from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) CHIPS program office establishing a new supply chain notice of funding opportunity (NOFO), namely for materials and equipment, the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF), the leading think tank for science and technology policy, released the following statement from Stephen Ezell, vice president of global innovation policy:

*While it is admirable that the first round was directed toward fabs, it’s also critical to ensure a healthy fab ecosystem with the inclusion of chemicals and tooling sectors.*

*The U.S. government needs to focus on resilience and choke point risks, technology leadership, and establishing an ecosystem to make it easier for fabs to do business here in the United States.*

*Policymakers and other stakeholders need to realize that without the CHIPS program, the United States will continue to fall behind in semiconductor production, which would have grave consequences for innovation and competition.*
