# ITIF Presents: Behind the Cyberlocker Door

Analyzing the jaw dropping profits that rogue websites make by stealing creative content.WASHINGTON (September 10, 2014) –Digital theft of copyrighted content, has surged as for-profit pirate sites continue making money by illegally distributing movies, music, TV shows and other content. Cyberlockers are among the most profitable content theft sites, but very little research has been conducted to determine how much money they are pocketing by illegally distributing the work of content creators. The Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF) will host the release of a new report by NetNames and the Digital Citizens Alliance that will provide the first major assessment of how cyberlockers profit and how much money they make. The event will be held Thursday, September 18 from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at the Rayburn House Office Building on Capitol Hill, Room 2456.The event will be hosted by the International Creativity and Theft Prevention Caucus, and Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA), a House co-chair of the caucus along with Congressman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA), will provide opening remarks. The report’s author, David Price, head of piracy intelligence at NetNames, will then discuss the numbers his team found during their extensive research into the shadowy world of cyberlockers. This will be followed by a panel of leading experts who will discuss opportunities to combat content theft and ensure the Internet remains a safe and secure place where creativity can thrive and be rewarded. The panel will be moderated by Daniel Castro, Senior Analyst with ITIF, and will feature Price, Sandra Aistars, Executive Director of the Copyright Alliance, and Tom Galvin, Executive Director of the Digital Citizens Alliance. The event is free, open to the public and complies with ethics rules.Register for the event.
