# ITIF Applauds ‘Green v. DOJ’ Decision

WASHINGTON—In response to the D.C. Circuit’s decision in *Green v. U.S. Department of Justice*, the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF), the leading think tank for science and technology policy, released the following statement from ITIF Senior Analyst Jaci McDole:

> *The court reached the right decision in upholding the Digital Millennium Copyright Act’s anti-circumvention prohibition against the Electronic Frontier Foundation’s repeated attacks on copyrights. The public does not have a right to circumvent subscription-based platforms to gain unfettered access to creators’ works free of charge.*

> *The* *Constitution provides creators intellectual property rights for a reason. IP protections give creators a chance to be compensated for the time, money, energy, and other resources they invest to produce their original work. It is the rightsholder’s sole decision whether to waive their rights. Creators’ livelihoods depend on controlling how their works are distributed and sold. It’s welcome news that the court upheld those constitutional rights in the Green case.*
