# FCC Spectrum Frontiers Puts U.S. on Path for 5G Leadership

WASHINGTON—The Information Technology and Innovation Foundation, a tech policy think tank, today released the following statement from Doug Brake, telecommunications policy analyst, on the vote by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approving flexible, mobile use of large swaths of high-band spectrum:

*This vote, opening up nearly 11 gigahertz of high-frequency spectrum, is a bright spot in recent FCC rulemakings. By freeing up this millimeter-wave spectrum to be capitalized upon by new technology, the FCC is putting the United States on the path for leadership in deploying 5G wireless systems. This is the first authorization of this kind in the world—the FCC deserves praise for being a first-mover in clearing the way for innovative new uses of this spectrum.*
