# Comments to U.S. Customs and Border Protection on Proposal to Collect Social Media Account Information for Travelers Entering the United States

ITIF’s Center for Data Innovation filed comments with U.S. Customs and Border Protection encouraging the agency to explore how it might use data to improve how it vets travelers, while cautioning that it remains to be seen whether the agency can effectively use social media data for this purpose and recommending that any implementation should undergo a thorough review to ensure it is both effective and protects civil liberties.
