Title II Ruling Clears Path for Smarter Broadband Policies, Says ITIF

WASHINGTON—Following the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals recent action on Title II, the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF), the leading think tank for science and technology policy, released the following statement from Joe Kane, Director, Broadband and Spectrum Policy:

The Sixth Circuit's ruling is a clear victory for consumers and innovation. The court’s decision to strike down the FCC’s Title II Order heads off an ill-suited regulatory regime that would have been a drag on the growth and development of the Internet.

Contrary to some misguided rhetoric, treating broadband like the old telephone monopoly would not have promoted a free and open Internet. Instead, it would have jeopardized the progress that has delivered unprecedented connectivity, speeds, and choice to consumers over the decades.

Now that there is clarity that Title II is wrong for the Internet, the new FCC Chairman should put this waste of time behind us and shift the agency’s focus to policies that benefit consumers, not partisanship.
