Recommendation

The Department of Education should launch a challenge to create a model data-driven school district.

Details

In line with creating a long-term strategy for AI in the K-12 education system, the Department of Education should launch a challenge to create a model data-driven school district, similar to the Smart City Challenge launched by the Department of Transportation in 2016. This challenge should have a particular focus on AI to demonstrate the benefits of using it inside and outside classrooms by students, teachers, and administrators. The Department should provide grant funding for the district that develops the best plan to use data-driven decision-making and AI applications.
