Declare Cold War on Global Warming

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York wants a Green New Deal. Senator Lamar Alexander of Tennessee is calling for a New Manhattan Project. Both proposals reference triumphant episodes in American history, but neither is the right analogy for the fight against climate change. But as David Hart writes for InsideSources, what we really need is a Cold War on global warming.

The Cold War furthered the goal of economic security embodied in the New Deal and extended the mission of technological leadership embedded in the Manhattan Project. A cold war on global warming can succeed in ways that the Green New Deal and New Manhattan Project cannot.
