ITIF Ranked World’s Top Think Tank for Science and Tech Policy

February 2, 2018

WASHINGTON—The Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF) this week earned recognition as the world’s top think tank for science and technology policy in the latest edition of the University of Pennsylvania’s authoritative “Global Go To Think Tank Index.” Previous editions of the report had placed ITIF as the top science and tech think tank in the United States, and number two in the world in that category. In addition to elevating ITIF to the top spot globally for science and tech policy, the 2017 edition of the annual ranking also places ITIF among America’s top 50 think tanks overall.

“Throughout the 12 years we’ve been operating, ITIF has focused intensively on the intersection of technological innovation and public policy. We are honored to be recognized by our peers around the world for the quality and influence of our policy research, analysis, and recommendations,” said ITIF President Robert D. Atkinson. “Science and technology issues have a profound impact on the whole global economy and all of modern life. We are committed to continue providing independent, nonpartisan research, analysis, and policy recommendations to accelerate innovation, boost productivity, and improve economic competitiveness.”

Founded in 2006, ITIF is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit, nonpartisan research and educational institute. With staff in Washington and Brussels, its mission is to formulate and promote global policy solutions that accelerate innovation and boost productivity to spur growth, opportunity, and progress.

“More than ever, think tanks are playing a critical role in providing credible analysis and insightful recommendations that policymakers and the public can trust,” said Atkinson. “That job is especially important in the area of scientific and technological innovation, because policymakers often lack the specialized knowledge and informed perspective necessary to evaluate and respond to fast-moving issues and circumstances. Good policy outcomes hinge on having accurate, in-depth information and analysis.”
