White House Report Highlights Threat of China’s Unfair Trade Practices, ITIF Says

June 20, 2018

WASHINGTON—The Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF), the world’s leading science and tech policy think tank, today welcomed a report from the White House Office of Trade & Manufacturing Policy identifying how China’s trade practices and industrial policies threaten U.S. economic and national security. ITIF released the following statement from its president, Robert D. Atkinson:

China’s innovation mercantilism has long undermined global innovation and weakened other economies, yet nations, including the United States, have done little to push back. The White House report lays out an important “bill of particulars” that other governments around the world should take seriously. Now is the time for a broad coalition of the willing to challenge China’s unfair trade practices and ensure it plays by the rules of the global trading system.
