The Center for Data Innovation has responded to a call for evidence by the select committee on artificial intelligence of the UK’s House of Lords. In its answers, the Center emphasizes the fact that there is little to no evidence to support hyperbolic fears about AI, such as the suggestion the technology will cause cataclysmic job destruction, loss of privacy, bias and abuse, or even human extinction and enslavement. In addition, because the long-term benefits of AI are dependent on an adequate supply of data, policymakers should ensure they do not constrain that supply, such as through overzealous data protection regulations that limit growth in AI firms.
