Comments to Food and Drug Administration on Gene-Edited Plants
ITIF submitted comments to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on how they should regulate foods derived from gene-edited plants. FDA has framed the issue based on a presumption such foods will be dangerous and require extensive pre-market review to ensure safety, yet there is no coherent, science-based justification for this presumption. They should withdraw the proposal and replace it with a request for input to help define classes of potential concern so they can fulfill their mandate to protect the public against unreasonable risks, as longstanding U.S. policy requires.
