Comments to USDA on Cornell Proposal for Diamond Back Moth Field Trial
ITIF submitted comments to the U.S. Department of Agriculture on Cornell University’s request for permission to test a safe, promising pest control method. Diamondback moth is a serious agricultural pest that costs farmers and consumers $4 to 5 billion per year. Existing controls are pesticide sprays with significant downsides. Cornell University has asked USDA permission to test the feasibility and efficacy of a safe biotech solution of a type with which we have more than 50 years positive experience in multiple species around the world. Rachael Carson would have approved, and so should USDA.
