“Alternative Energy” Is Now Mainstream

Earth Day—celebrated for the 48th time today—is a reminder of how far the U.S. has come in its views on energy and the environment. What was once a protest against establishment thinking is now mainstream, with 59 percent of the public favoring environmental protection over domestic fossil fuel production. Entrepreneurs and innovators are ready to ramp up low-carbon energy, but bringing this future to pass will require a new approach to energy policy.
