Build Smarter Infrastructure

Building infrastructure that integrates physical and digital components will be critical to drive the next wave of social and economic change, writes Rob Atkinson in U.S. News & World Report. Excerpted from his essay for the University of Virginia Miller Center's First Year Project, Atkinson argues that without proactive public policies though, it may take a very long time. The incoming Trump administration should accelerate the transition to hybrid digital infrastructure by establishing a digital infrastructure council, supporting state and local experimentation, and spurring precompetitive transportation R&D.
