Comments to NIOSH on the Internet of Things for Emergency Response

The U.S. National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has requested information on the impact of sensor technologies, which make up the Internet of Things, on emergency response efforts. NIOSH is exploring current and future opportunities to use sensors to improve emergency response as well as seeking input on ways to reduce barriers to sensor development and deployment. ITIF’s Center for Data Innovation has filed comments describing the many ways in which the Internet of Things can improve the efficiency and effectiveness of emergency response efforts, as well as power early warning systems that can prevent disasters entirely. Additionally, the comments describe several ways the public sector can aid the sensor developer community and accelerate the deployment of these potentially life-saving technologies.
